Attendance - Statutory update

DfE guidance Pupil absence statistics; section 1.6: To account for high levels of study leave and other authorised absences for pupils aged 15 in the second half of the summer term, all possible sessions and absences relating to this period for 15 year olds (as at the start of the academic year) are removed prior to any analysis being undertaken and are not included in any published statistics.

The DfE update now states that for all students aged 15 and older, schools should remove all possible sessions and absences relating to the second half of the summer term.

Note: The second half of the summer term is defined in Config > Curriculum > Academic Days and begins after the Summer term's Half Term holiday.

My Dashboard > Attendance

In light of the above, the following updates have been made to the Attendance Dashboard for the current Academic year 24/25 and onwards:

  • All possible sessions and absences for those students who are 15 and older at the start of the second half of the summer term have been removed.
  • When you hover over the Statutory Age Only tool tip in the Attendance Dashboard Settings panel, the second paragraph has been updated to read: "Students who first enrolled at the school within the second half of the summer term are not included. To account for high levels of study leave and authorised absences for pupils aged 15 in the second half of the summer term, all possible sessions and absences relating to this period will be removed".

  • Likewise, when you hover over the Age-weighted tool tip in the Attendance Dashboard Settings panel, the last three paragraphs have been updated to read: "Students who first enrolled at the school within the second half of the summer term are not included. To account for high levels of study leave and authorised absences for pupils aged 15 in the second half of the summer term, all possible sessions and absences relating to this period will be removed".

This update has also been implemented when the user selects the Statutory Age Only checkbox. The Note has been updated to read: "The Statutory Age (compulsory school age) is calculated for pupils who are aged between 5 and 15 as at the start of the academic year. Students who first enrolled at the school within the second half of the summer term are not included. To account for high levels of study leave and authorised absences for pupils aged 15 in the second half of the summer term, all possible sessions and absences relating to this period will be removed.
