The 2025 School Workforce Census (SWF) is a statutory return for all schools in England. The census reference date is Thursday 6th November 2025, with data covering both snapshot and continuous periods as defined by the DfE.
This update ensures compliance with the statutory requirements by updating the XML generation, summary report, and validation logic in line with DfE specifications.
Reference Date: rolled forward to 6th November 2025.
Staff Details: includes all staff employed on census day, plus leavers with an end date between 1st September 2024 and 6th November 2025.
Contracts/Service Agreements: all current contracts on census day, plus those ending between 1st September 2024 and 6th November 2025.
Absences: all absences starting or ending between 1st September 2024 and 31st August 2025.
Summary Report: updated in line with DfE’s published specification.
XSLT Validations: updated to the latest version.
XML File Name Format: updated to follow 2025 convention: E.g. – 8012000_SWF_801LL25_001.XML
This update ensures the census accurately reflects both snapshot and continuous workforce data, enabling schools to meet statutory obligations without disruption.
