Census - Pupil Record FAM Codes Updated for English and Maths Minimum Hours Monitoring

Students > Student Details > Funding and Allowances > Learner Monitoring

As part of DfE’s RFC 1303, we’ve updated the Learner Funding and Monitoring (FAM) section within the Pupil Record > Funding area and Quick Edit (Learning Monitor) for all school types in England.

These changes support new requirements for collecting data on the minimum teaching hours for English and maths, starting from the 2025/26 academic year. This data will be used in the Autumn Census.

Key Updates
  • The Learner Funding and Monitoring dropdown now includes new options allowing schools to indicate whether students are meeting minimum hour requirements for English and maths.

New options include:
  • Student has or does not have the minimum classroom teaching hours for English.

  • Student has or does not have the minimum classroom teaching hours for Maths.

  • Existing codes like tutoring and repeating a year remain.

  • While only the FAM Code is visible in the dropdown, each one is linked to a specific backend FAM Type (e.g., EMH for English, MMH for Maths, NLM for others). This is handled automatically in the system.

Validation Rules

To maintain data integrity:

  • Users cannot assign multiple records for the same FAM Code with overlapping date ranges. A validation error will appear: “Learning Monitoring already exists for the given date range.”

  • Users also cannot assign multiple records with the same FAM Type across the same date range. A validation error will appear: “Only one Learning Monitoring record per Learning Monitoring type for the given date range.”

For example, a pupil may have records for English, Maths, and Tutoring during the same timeframe, but cannot have both “has minimum hours” and “does not have minimum hours” for English or Maths during the same period.

Additional Information
  • These updates apply across both the full pupil record and Quick Edit areas.

  • All existing functionality remains unchanged.

This enhancement ensures schools can meet new DfE statutory reporting requirements and maintain compliance with post-16 funding conditions.
